The Kofola company introduces its flagship product in a new sugar-free version.
Domestic soft drinks producer Kofola offers consumers a new version of the traditional Czech drink, starting in February, and introduces sugar-free Kofola Bez onto the market. Following the Kofola redesign last year, this is the biggest innovation in the history of the brand.
“We want to offer consumers an alternative to Kofola Original and thus expand the brand portfolio. Though Kofola Original normally contains a third less sugar than other cola drinks, there are consumers who prefer a cola drink without any sugar whatsoever. This new version should be the choice for diabetics and the overweight,“ Vojtěch Kolmaš, Kofola Brand Manager commented on the change.
Kofola Bez contains sweeteners like acesulpham, aspartam and sucralose. Another novelty of this sugar-free version is the absence of phosphoric acid, commonly added to cola drinks. Consumers will find the Kofola Bez in an identical packaging to Kofola Original, i.e. in the 2L, 1L and 0.5L formats in PET and 0.33L in glass. The packaging will differ primarily in the label, which uses colours like silver, white and blue brought together in a unique graphic design to highlight this new version. Nevertheless the standard corporate colours (orange, brown and white), logo and brand identity will continue. Kofola Bez will be marketed primarily by large chains. The recommended price will be identical to the Kofola Original and Kofola Citrus prices.
In terms of sales promotion, Kofola will continue with its novel and daring approach, and traditionally surprise the public with an untraditional advert. A TV spot – the work of the Rafťáci film director Karel Janák, will be broadcasted on the Nova and Prima channels from March. Work on Kofola’s internet campaign is also under way along with POS materials, marketing activities in the points of sale and others.
On the Kofola Original drink
Kofola has been one of the best known and at the same time most popular soft drinks in the country for over four decades. Its basis is formed by the special KOFO syrup manufactured according to the original recipe. The syrup comprises of 14 substances of a natural character that give this drink its unmistakeable refreshing flavour and characteristic aroma. Unlike common cola drinks Kofola contains nearly a third less sugar and as little as half as much caffeine. The first innovation of Kofola Original was adding citrus fruit juice, giving rise to the Kofola Citrus drink.
